System Requirements
- Netscape Calendar 4.77 (a component of Netscape Communicator
4.77 Professional Edition)
- Note that new versions of Netscape Communicator no longer
come with the Calendar program. Netscape is in the process of
preparing a completely new version of the Calendar component,
which should be ready sometime this year (2000). JeffcoNet will
evaluate the new Calendar extensively before we make a decision
to upgrade.
- If you acquire (via download or CD-ROM) Communicator version
4.77, you may install it over version 4.5 and still have your
Calendar from version 4.5.
- Any Palm Compatible Platform device (e.g. Pilot, PalmPilot,
Palm III, WorkPad).
- Palm Desktop 2.0 or greater installed on your PC. If you have
an older version, get the upgrade from the Palm web site (www.palm.com).
Installing the Netscape Calendar Link
- You must have successfully installed the Palm
Desktop Organizer Software on your computer and verified
that your PC can communicate with your Palm device via its cradle
before you install the Netscape Calendar link.
- Make sure no other software is running on your computer including
Netscape Communicator.
- The Netscape Calendar link tool is called, NCPiLink.exe,
and it will be found (after a successfull installation of Netscape
Communicator 4.77 Profession Edition) in the directory path listed
below:
- C:\Program Files \ Netscape \ Communicator \ Calendar
- Use the Windows Explorer to view the directory listed above.
- Double click the NCPiLink.exe
installer to begin the process.
After installing Netscape Calendar
Link
After running the Calendar Link for PalmPilot
installer, you need to perform the following steps on your PC.
- Perform a HotSync. This will install the NC
Setup application onto the Palm organizer. Note that
you may get a message in the log saying "Cannot locate NC Setup.
Make sure it is installed on the Palm organizer". This message
is normal, and will go away once the NC Setup application is installed.
- Run NC Setup
on the Palm organizer. Enter your user name, password and
server as indicated below:
- User: [enter your complete name as you enter it when
accessing the PC version of Netscape Calendar]
- Password: [enter your normal JeffcoNet password]
- Server: enter jeffcocal.jeffco.k12.co.us
- Node: enter 10000
- On your PC, locate HotSync Manager's icon (it's at the right
of the task bar, next to the current time). Click on the icon
to bring up HotSync Manager's menu. Choose the "Custom..." menu
command. This will bring up a dialog box that lets you choose
which PalmPilot database to HotSync.
- You may wish to review the settings for each of Calendar Events
and Tasks.
- If you already have data in the Palm organizer's Date Book
or To Do List, you will probably want to leave the settings
to their default value ("Synchronize the files"). This will
copy the data from the organizer into Calendar and vice versa.
- If you do not have any data in the Palm organizer, you can
change the settings so that the information in Calendar completely
replaces that in the organizer ("Desktop overwrites Handheld").
- Perform a second HotSync. This will synchronize your
Calendar data!
