Mission Statement We, the Standley Lake High School Community of students, parents, and staff, will provide a safe, respectful learning environment. Students will develop a desire to learn and will be supported in their effort to meet their individual needs, to maximize their potentials, and to develop a sense of spirit and pride. Standley Lake High School Vision Statement To become a school of excellence, SLHS must be a school that provides a positive and welcoming atmosphere including academic excellence and respect, a shared sense of purpose and direction, goals and objectives that reflect our sense of values, and the participation of members of the school community in order to transform ideas into reality. Academic Excellence: A school of excellence emphasizes the intellectual growth of the Standley Lake High School community and provides students with a comprehensive curriculum consisting of a strong academic core and a variety of elective courses, complemented by co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. A. Faculty · Set high academic standards and hold students accountable to them. · Teach toward common standards, have a unified approach to sharing standards and expectations across departments. · Accept different teaching styles. · Inspire life-long learning. · Model professionalism. · Cooperate and support one another; participate in team decision making. · Provide for the diversity of learning styles, interests, and abilities and help develop intellectual curiosity · Teach students work ethic by example. · Take advantage of and create more opportunities to learn from and exchange ideas with staff from various departments of the school. · Share excitement in teaching content that will translate to student success. B. Curriculum · Value the diverse characteristics of our community and offer curriculum, which prepares students for adulthood and encourages lifelong learning. · Provide course selections to meet changing student needs. Focus on academics, and be aware of school to work options, SLHS will provide non-traditional options for students. · Base the curriculum on district standards. · Develop more team teaching and cross curriculum opportunities for teachers and students.
