Dear Parents, Students and Faculty:
Welcome to the Ralston Valley High School PTSA Website. Our site is new this year and will be undergoing changes as we progress through the year. Your questions and comments are welcome in this process. PTSA activities are in full force here at Ralston Valley. We have many new board members and we are very excited about planning programs for this year and next year.
I know that after grade school, I didn’t have a clear idea of the functions that PTSA performed. To help clarify , I am providing a list of the different committees and functions of these committees, as well as what the board accomplishes throughout the school year.
After Prom: Each year, this committee plans a fun and safe environment for our students to participate after the school sponsored prom. Volunteers are needed to design & build decorations, obtain donations, help with fund raising and work the night of the event. This committee is currently is looking for a co-chair. Projects include one time participation and/or year-long participation. You have the option of selecting a project that will work for your schedule.
Scholarship: Each year RVPTSA provides scholarships to graduating seniors. This is a short-term commitment, March - April.
Reflections: This is a National PTSA sponsored competition with emphasis on the arts; visual arts, music, literature, photography, and dance. This is a short-term commitment November - January.
Legislative: Keeps the membership informed of any legislative issues that affect our children. While the committee is active year-round, commitment of time is limited.
Hospitality: Solicits donations (food & beverage) from volunteers who have already signed up. RVPTSA provides the refreshments at two award ceremonies each year. Time commitment can be limited and a lot can be done from home.
Staff Appreciation: This committee coordinates special events and gifts to recognize the wonderful staff of Ralston Valley High School. You can choose a short-term or long-term commitment to participate on this committee.
Membership: Is responsible for recruitment of individuals and businesses in the support of RVPTSA. This committee is especially active at the beginning of the school year. There are opportunities for both short and long-term commitments on this committee.
Future Mustangs: This is an exciting opportunity to work with our feeder elementary and middle schools to sponsor events that might be of interest to our “Future Mustangs.” Possible events would include football & basketball games as well as other sporting and cultural events. We currently need a chair or co-chairs for this committee. Outside of the chair responsibilities, commitment is short-term and per project.
Alumni Organization: This is a new committee. RVHS is approaching it’s 10 year anniversary! This group will work to continue relationships with our graduates and their parents. We are currently looking for individuals to chair or co-chair this committee, as well as participants to help with various projects.
Ways & Means: While we do raise funds during our membership drive, they are limited and do not cover costs for all the functions RVPTSA provides. We are currently looking for creative individuals to chair or co-chair as well as participate in this committee to raise funds in support of RVPTSA activities. Some fun fundraising ideas may include: PTSA Pickle Fridays (dill pickle booth run by students), a Mustang Stampede (5K run), Read-A-Thon, etc. This is a year-round committee, but participation can be per event.
Communication: We have a lot going on, but not everyone hears about our events. This group has a passion for getting the message out to students and parents; updating the website, communicating when PTSA meetings are held, what event is upcoming, etc. We are currently looking for someone to chair or co-chair this committee as well as participants to help spread the message on a per-project basis.
Additional Opportunities: Outside of our formal committees, we are looking for Grant Writers, individuals to coordinate guest speakers/workshops for community outreach, and active members to attend monthly meetings and provide input and insight.
Our Board meets once a month to discuss current committee reports, review budget, review old business, discuss new business and make sure our PTSA is running smoothly. Your current board consists of:
Diana Ferguson - President
Rick Gager - Vice President
Janelle Headrick - Vice President
Karen Penland - Treasurer
Tracy Lombardi - Secretary
I look forward to working with each and every one of you this coming year in providing a closer relation with the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of our youth.
