Special Edition on Facilities Usage

This is a special edition of Chalk Talk with the latest information for parents about the upcoming facilities usage community forums. Jeffco Public Schools is holding a series of forums to gather feedback about the effective and efficient use of district schools. Currently, there are 45 different options being considered; those options include using buildings differently, school closures and boundary changes. The forums are only one way to provide feedback to the facilities usage committee. You do not have to attend a forum to be heard. All community input will be given to the 30-member committee.

Ways to provide feedback to the committee (All methods of input will have equal consideration.)

  • Online at: www.jeffcopublicschools.org
  • On videotape - at every forum there will be a camera set up for people who wish to give input in private
    or who are unable to speak at the forum because of the time constraints.
  • Letters - send letters addressed to Communications Services, 1829 Denver West Drive, Golden, CO 80401
  • E-mail - facilities@jeffco.k12.co.us
  • Phone calls - 303-982-6837
  • Attending one of the four community forums

Here are the times and dates of the forums:

  • Wednesday, Nov. 11, 6 -8 p.m. Alameda High School auditorium
  • Saturday, Nov. 14, 9 -11 a.m. Manning School auditorium
  • Monday, Nov. 16, 6 - 8 p.m. Summit Ridge Middle School auditorium
  • Wednesday, Nov. 18, 6 - 8 p.m. Pomona High School auditorium

How the forums will work:

  • People wishing to speak should come 30 minutes before the start of the meeting
  • You must sign up to speak
  • People from the articulation area where the forum is being held will be the first priority speakers - those from surrounding articulation areas will follow. (For example, at the Alameda High School meeting, people from the Alameda, Jefferson, Green Mountain and Lakewood articulation areas will have first speaking priority.) See the speaking order
  • Each person will get two minutes to speak and 30 seconds for the comments to be reviewed
  • Large groups of people with similar comments and concerns are encouraged to select a spokesperson - that person will be given six minutes. (The time allowed for a group has changed from nine minutes to six minutes.)
  • Because a large turnout is expected, it is not necessary or encouraged to attend more than one forum. People or groups who have spoken at one forum will be the last priority for speaking at the remaining forums
