New this year ...SchoolMessenger

Making its debut this school year is a new messaging system that will help the district and your school keep in touch about important information. School Messenger makes it possible for parents to receive messages from the district about emergency situations, school cancellations, attendance and other important information via phone, e-mail and text messages. Up to eleven telephone numbers and five e-mail addresses and five text message addresses can be entered into the contact system.

Parents can also select a language preference. SchoolMessenger will enhance the district's ability to communicate regularly with parents and staff. Log on to SchoolMessenger today to designate your contact information. Remember to also update your information with your students' school.

H1N1

This summer the World Health Organization raised the worldwide pandemic alert level for H1N1 flu to a Phase 6 – signaling a worldwide flu pandemic. While more than 70 countries have reported cases of the H1N1 virus, the illness associated with H1N1 is still relatively mild in most people.

Jeffco Schools is preparing for the fall flu season and will launch a campaign about the importance of hand washing.  According to county, state and national health departments, frequent and thorough hand washing is the most effective way to prevent the spread of H1N1.  Here are some other preventative measures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

What you can do to stay healthy

  • Stay informed
  • Influenza is thought to spread mainly person-to-person through coughing or sneezing of infected people.
  • Take everyday actions to stay healthy:
    • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze- alcohol hand cleaners are also effective.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread that way.
    • Stay home if you get sick.

Times are changing

Parents may notice a change this school year in school start/end times and bus stop pick-up times. The district implemented these changes as a way to save money and become more cost efficient. Check out your school's Web site to find out if your start/end time has been changed.

Facilities Usage Committee Community Forums

Jeffco Public Schools calls all community members and parents to attend one of four community forums in September to provide input to the district’s Facilities Usage Committee on efficient and effective usage of schools.  The input received from the community forums will be used to produce a final report to the Board of Education on the best use of school buildings for the future.

The Facilities Usage Committee is a 30-member panel that is reviewing information about Jeffco’s buildings – everything from enrollment to the cost of maintenance.   The committee is made up of both staff and community members.
