Budget reductions could mean losses Superintendent Dr. Cindy Stevenson is holding a series of community meetings in the next few weeks to tell an ominous story – Jeffco Public Schools is facing $35 million in budget reductions over the next three years. Here’s the challenge: how to meet increasing community expectations, increasing mandates and increasing costs with limited resources. Budget workgroups were asked to give a tentative list of reductions totaling six percent over three years. Now, the community is giving input. Here’s a preliminary look into what those budget cuts could mean for Jeffco’s future: Elementary reductions $11,421,000 Board of Education names new member By a unanimous vote, members of the Jefferson County Board of Education have named Rick Rush to fill the vacancy in District 5 created by the resignation of Vince Chowdhury. The vote was taken during the board’s regular meeting on Thursday, Oct. 2. Rush was among three finalists for the board position. He is the parent of two children who have graduated from Chatfield High School and has served on several of the district’s community advisory committees including the Financial Oversight Committee and the Strategic Planning and Advisory Committee. Rush is a health actuary with Aon Consulting and said he will work for quality education for all children in Jefferson County while serving on the board. He will be sworn in on Oct. 16 and will serve until November 2009.
Celebration of Excellence event Don't forget to RSVP for the fourth annual Key Communicator's Celebration of Excellence event to be held on Wednesday, October 15 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. (Golden High School Auditorium, 701 24th Street, Golden, CO 80401). This reception is the district's way to say thanks to our Key Communicators and to celebrate the accomplishments of students, teachers, staff and our Jefferson County community. This wonderful evening includes individual and group representation of the best of the best in academics, athletics, arts, teachers, staff and community service.
