2008 Jeffco school accountability ratings reported

Jeffco Public Schools had 60 percent of its neighborhood, option and charter schools earn excellent or high ratings in the most recent School Accountability Report (SAR) results released recently, an increase of four points from 56 percent the year prior.

Overall, out of 163 Jeffco schools rated, representing 86,182 students, Jeffco’s 2007-08 SAR results showed:
-32 excellent
-66 high
-46 average
-19 low
- none were unsatisfactory

“I am incredibly proud of these results because it shows how hard our students, staff and parents are working to achieve academic success for all Jeffco children,” said Jeffco Public Schools Superintendent Cindy Stevenson.

The Colorado School Accountability Report primarily focuses on student performance by using scores from CSAP, and ACT for high schools. Schools receive an overall rating of excellent, high, average, low or unsatisfactory, and a rating indicating how much the school has improved from the previous year.

Jeffco Board of Education looks for community feedback on budget

As a reminder, members of the Jefferson County Board of Education are asking for the community’s help in making tough decisions about the school district’s budget.  The district will need to cut at least $35 million between 2009 and 2012 after voters rejected the bond and mill levy measures on the November ballot.

The board has received recommendations from staff and community budget workgroups and wants to continue to gather feedback from many different voices in Jefferson County.

Board members will hold a series of community meetings, “Challenges and Choices”, in early January to gather community feedback.

The dates, locations and times of the “Challenges and Choices” community forums are:

January 3 – 10:30-11:30 a.m., Belmar Public Library, 555 S. Allison Pkwy., Lakewood
January 10 – 10:30-11:30 a.m., Arvada West High School, 11325 Allendale Dr., Arvada
