Board passes $1 billion budget...superintendent's contract extended three years

At its June 14, 2006 regular meeting, the Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education approved a $1,017,970,800 budget for the 2006-07 school year. The district will operate on a $605,661,800 general fund budget.

The approved budget comes after an extensive review by community member and a Stakeholder Panel, community budget forums and two public hearings. Included in the budget is approximately $80 million in building funds, monies that will be invested in the remodel, renovations or rebuilding of schools throughout the district.

This year Jeffco Public Schools implemented Budgeting for Results, a new process that creates a balanced budget that requires district leadership to align resources, services and structures with the core mission of increasing the achievement of every student. The “results” are aligned with the district's Strategic Plan and are the foundation of the entire budgeting process.

The board also approved a three-year extension of Superintendent Cindy Stevenson's contract.

Stevenson received a $170,000 annual base salary contract effective July 1, 2006. Her new salary will remain one of the lowest for superintendents of large school districts in Colorado . She will also be eligible for a performance-based salary payment. Her current salary is $158,951. She assumed her current responsibilities July 1, 2002 .

“I am honored to continue to work with the children, schools and communities of Jefferson County,” Stevenson said. Respond to this article
