Celebration of Excellence moved to May 3 Due to a scheduling conflict, the second annual Key Communicators Celebration of Excellence, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, in the Board Room at the Education Center, 1829 Denver West Drive, Bldg. 27, in Golden. The annual Celebration of Excellence is designed to recognize and feature performances from some of the Jeffco Public Schools' most promising students. Join the celebration as the district honors these outstanding students, teachers, staff and community leaders who have excelled in the academics, athletics and the arts. Enjoy music, dance, drama and a wide assortment of entertainment groups from Jeffco Public Schools. Hackberry Hill Elementary School renovation ceremony set Jeffco Public Schools will host a renovation ceremony for Hackberry Hill Elementary School at 1:45 p.m., Thursday April 6. The ceremony, open to the public, will take place at 7300 West 76th Ave. in Arvada. The major addition to Hackberry Hill Elementary School will replace an existing 25,000 square foot wing (built in 1966) and upgrade the remaining 21,000 square foot facility. The school will receive major electrical system improvements, a partial mechanical system, and miscellaneous building renovation and utility upgrades. The overall general site will be improved, including upgrading of the paved parking lot. The overall improvements will provide the school with a capacity for 480 students in 20 classrooms. The renovated Hackberry Hill Elementary School is scheduled to be completed by August 2007. Classes will continue during the construction. The project is being funded from bonds approved by voters in 2004. Board of Education legislative issues update The Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education announced its position on current legislative proposals that the district is tracking. Below is a comprehensive list of the board's position on each of the proposed bills (boldface titles indicate bills that the board has taken a position on since the last issue of the Key Communiqué was issued Feb. 24).
The Board is studying the remainder of the draft bills and as they reach consensus on each, their decisions will be reported in the Key Communiqué. * While monitoring Jeffco Public Schools' interests Monthly school construction fact sheet The passage of ballot measure 3B in November 2004 is helping Jeffco Public Schools renovate, remodel or rebuild many older facilities to bring them up to 21 st Century Schools of Learning standards. Of the 420 school projects planned as part of the capital improvement program, 159 have been completed, are being closed out, are currently under construction or are in the design phase. Jeffco Public Schools is committed to keeping its publics informed about its construction projects, all of which are on-time and on-budget. Each month, via the Key Communiqué , the district will provide a downloadable, comprehensive fact sheet that summarizes all major district construction projects. The district invites you to become familiar with this information and share it with others.
